I am finally painting the interior of my MRC UH-1C Medevac Huey. I have started on the seats. I am using a new airbrush(GREX) and new paint (LIFE COLOR). I painted everything black first to be able to play with the various shading and tones.
I will be painting the cockpit in grey. I am still working on the side collums since I have to fix the large gaps between the fuselage and the collums.
The first part of this build can be seen in the first part of this build

Weathering
This one of my favorite part of the painting process....WEATHERING, MAKING IT USED.
This is the second part of the aging process of the seats. I usually coat the paint job with either flat or glossy in order to protect the paint or keeping from too much color change. In this instance I did not because I wanted the seat to have a faded and worn out look (but not too much) from the wash. I used oil paint thinned out with turpenoid.
I also started on the container below the seats. It was painted yellow just too add a little color in the cockpit since the two main colors will be grey and OD green. I applied a wash of Raw Umber on both the seat and the container. I will probably go back with a litte yellow to do some touch up later. I will let this dry really for several days before I do any more work on it. I added some additional chippings with Tamiya German Grey with a small brush.

Mapcase & Avionics box
I worked on the mapcase this weekend and the avionics box for the hoist.

Cental instrument panel
I have worked on the cental instrument panel on the Huey. I repainted it twice because somehow while I was doing the red touch up some silver paint got on the brush and messed everything up.

Sheepskin on the seats
After reading the step by step on Avus' Blackhawk on ARC. I wanted to give sheepskin on the seats a try (I like his seats because it brought texture to the seats)...Thanks AVUS.
The seats are not finished yet. I am still working on the hoist.

Amazing
Hello shark64,
Amazing what you are doing! That metal looks very realistic
One question, are these dataplacards from Eduard?
John
Congratulations
Hi Oliver,
Some people can scratch, some people can paint and a few are good in both! You belong to the last category!
Can't wait to see it finished

1st Stage Weathering Cockpit/ instrument panel
Back at the modeling table this weekend. I was having airbrush trouble. The O-ring underneath the trigger broke.
I started on the cockpit paint. This is the first stage of weathering. I still have to do the different steps of washes, remove the MASKOL to show the small chippings on the cabin floor.
I also ended up redoing (again) the backrest. I will use also Mig pigments to add some dirty area(but not much). Once the cockpit is done I will spray a very diluted Nato black all over the cockpit to blend everything together.
The washes will be a variation of Raw Umber and Black.
Next step will be seats and seatbelts.

Amazing
Hi Oliver,
As requested I uploaded the pictures on my server.
I realy like your weathering effects! looking forward to your next batch of pictures!

Hi Tim.
Thanks so much for doing that. I can scratchbuilt all day but I suck when it comes down to computers. Glad you like the weathering(1/st stage)...I decided to repaint the instrument panel. It did not look sharp enough for my taste.

Moving along
Hi Guys,
with the cockpit. At this rate I think I might be done soon. I want to repaint the red seat (washes made it too dark). I will be redoing the backseat again, its it too faded compare to the rest of the interior.

Totally agree. It´s impressive and disillusioning at the same time. Impressive, because we are witnessing how this piece of perfection is created and disillusioning because we are faced with our own disability to build something comparable.

Hi Ice.
You just made my day...thanks.
It has been very challenging at times. Sometimes I have to visualize the build before I get to doing it. This is my first time putting some much into a cockpit. I really appreciate the kind words.

Here are some more photos
I installed the red jumpseat yesterday into the cabin. If you recall in the photos I was going back and forth with the position.Still working on the new repainted pilot seats
ust a few changes here and there. I added the instrument panel last night.

Feedback
Hi Oliver,
Thanks for the update. Amazing detail, I love your cockpit and the way you add contrast and use a lot of color variations. The data placards make it look like a "real" cockpit.
One thing that I'm not sure about is the green screen on the cockpit panel. The color is good, definitly on the two screens on the center console but the "rounded" shape on the instrument panel makes it look "weird" (sorry don't find another word). While all the other smaller pieces come together and form one excellent cockpit, the large green panel seems to be "lost".
I hope you understand what I mean?
Tim

Hi Tim.
Thanks so much for posting the photos. I really apperciate any comments regarding my modeling.....thats how I move forward.
As far as the green screen inside I agree its a little big however once the fuselage is closed the whole thing will kind of dissapear i/e the oversize of it. The concave shape is my mistake because I used to much resin. I have been doing more contrast on my modeling ...its a new thing for me. I think its a little to heavy right now, work in progress.
Thanks again for the comments. I really appreciate that.

UH-1
I just looked at Pete's UH-60 . You two have got the market covered in the excellance catagory. I'm in just totaly AWE of both of you. Your work is breath taking. We are in the presents of MASTERS . Gary
Hi Gary. I agree with you
Hi Gary.
I agree with you 100%. Pete's work is just stunning. I really like what he's doing with his Medevac version. He's got my vote.
Thanks so much for your comments.

Hi Oliver, One can tell that Pete has a grasp on this hobby. With his ability to do vehichles and figures so well he probably does ships and WWI aircraft too. LOL I might as well put mine back in the trunk. Gary
fire extinguisher
Here are some photos of the finished fire extinguisher. I must have repainted that thing more than 8 times. I didn't like my paint job. It was either too glossy or too red....or the wash was awful. I finally like the finished product. I almost gave up on that extinguisher. The Eduard photoetched fire extinghuisher bracket was also a pain to work with.....Maybe it was not a good month for modeling..

COCKPIT IS DONE.....

overhead windows
Hi Guys.
Since I am getting closer to closing the fuselage, its time to deal with the overhead windows/ front windscreen.
I wanted to try to have the widows as flush to the frame as possible. Of course there are small gaps in between. I futured the windows first. This morning I sprayed a light coat(at low pressure) of tamiya clear green on the bottom part of the window. Once that was dried I coated the top part of the window with clear resin. I will add a clear coat of resin once the widows has been glued to the frame to make everything flush (well I hope), I will adjust the saturation of the green if neccesary.
I sanded the front frame on the windscreen. I would like to give vaccum form a try so that I can make a new front windscreen and cut to size to get a better fit. Here are some photos.
Oliver
You've done a cracking job
You've done a cracking job with those top windows. I guess you sprayed them to get an even colouring result.
Steve
Hi Thanks, glad you like the
Hi
Thanks, glad you like the windows.
I first cleaned the clear part with eyeglasses cleaner then future it. Once it was really dried I sprayed Tamiya clear green only on the bottom of the glass. I added a clear resin coating on top. Once the windows are in place in the fuselage I will add the last clear resin coating on top to make it flush with the fuselage frame.

Insane work !
Your`e work is extreme man ! I realy like the Bell UH-1 helicopters and, my fav is the B version but this nearly change my mind about the C version !
Great work !!! And if u have hatches or panels that could be in open position im about to upload pictures of an big walkaround of a Bell UH-1B, covering everything !
keep on the extreme good work !

Hi Sindre.
Thanks for the comments. I love Hueys too.....C or D's.
My build is further along than the photos you see on Scale(Unfortunalty) (I wish they would be updated)). I have opened the front Avionics compartment and detailed it. I am always looking for Huey photos but posting them on this site is a great place since I visit it everyday. Untill some of my photos are updated on this site(HINT,HINT...TIM) you can take a closer look at Aircraft Resource Center under helicopter modeling under HUEY. They have the latest. Welcome to the world of Helos.
I read that you are going to start yours correct??
Oliver
Yes i am !
My version is going to be a 7th Cavalry Bell UH-1C which was flying the soldiers in and out of the La Drang Valley. Maybe u know the Landing Zone X-RAY.
Or the other idea is one of the attack helicopters used during the same attack.
If not i might build the UH-1B ``597``. A giant walkaround off 597 is under way here.
I did also buy the Eduard big set for great details.
Cheers

Hi Sindre.
I do know about landing X_RAY.
Sounds like a great project. If I was to do another Huey(which i will) I would do an attack version. The one with the shark mouth in front.
Eduard is a great add-on to the kit. Do not follow the directions on the pilots seatbelts, you have to cut them shorter and position. Too much folding between the attachement from the cabin floor and through the seat frames. You can cheat by cutting them. I can send you a photo if you want of what I did.
Oliver
That would be great !
