1/35 Academy S-70A Firehawk

I used an Academy 1/35 scale UH-60L blackhawk as a base for this L.A. County S-70A Firehawk. As an ex fireman I like to build rescue and fire aparatus. I extended the landing struts and scratchbuilt the watertank. The interior was made up of some parts out of my sparesbox, the seatbelts are made from lead foil with photoetched buckles. The foldable seats in the roof were made of wire and leadfoil. I gave the engine some plumbing with a few odd pieces of wire. I mainly used Humbrol for the interior and Tamiya gloss paints for the exterior. The decals were printed on my laser printer. The only reference I had was a few photos I got of the net.

Awesome!

Wow-this is an great conversion, I often thought about in 72 scale.

But you did it! And it looks just great! Nice details!

And I LOVE the light weathering, it looks very authentic on such a civil helo! Very nice work - keep it up!

Beautiful bird. The fire jacket puts it over the top. BTW did anybody see the L.A. County chopper that carried Michael Jackson's body? Intresting paint job. Gary

Supurb build Faan. The detail is amazing to say the least. I like the equipment in the cabin.

Your paint and weathering skills  are well represented on this model.

Fine job!

S-70 Firefighter....

Hi Faan, Thanks for sharing your S-70 with us and welcome to scalerotors. Having seen the model in the flesh I can vouch that Faan has made a great job of the conversion.

It's a pity the judges at our Nationals (IPMS South Africa) didn't feel the same, considering the amount of work that went into the model. I think us helo modellers need to put  some sort of info with our modeld to enlighten judges and public alike as to what mods we have done to our kits. Here in SA we now have seperate classes for Helo models, so we don't have to battle agains fixed wing types. Colin

S70 Firehawk

Hi Edgar

I printed it on my color lazer printer on clear decal sheet.

Will e-mail the pdf file to you if you want it.

I made a mistake with the big 19 on the tail,I printed a black square with a clear 19 and put it over a white patch.

Never could get a nice finish on it.

best to go through the trouble and cut a stencil and spray it in white.

Greetings

Faan

S-70A Firehawk

Faan,

Wow!  Fantastic work.  As a retired firefighter/paramedic, currently a flight nurse, I can appreciate all of your attention to detail, and hard work.  I have long been a fan of the LA County FD Air Ops Division, and their colorful paint scheme.  I hope to someday build a 1/35 or 1/32 scale version of one of their Bell 412's.  Being new to aircraft modeling, I think that I need to develop my skills a little before tackling such a project.  I look forward to seeing more of your fine work.  You are an inspiration!

Sincerely,

David
