Here is my conversion of Hasegawa's 48th scale SH-3H Sea King into a Canadion CH-124A.
Compared to the US Navy SH-3H Sea Kings the CH-124 used shorter sponsons. The Hasegawa kit contains the larger sponsons housing MAD gear and sonobuoys.
In 1975, Canadian Sea Kings were upgraded to CH-124A. This modification included the installation of a search radar housed in a dorsal radome.
Next, Around 1980, all Canadian CH-124A Sea Kings were fitted with a fuselage mounted sonobuoy launching system which can accomodate both flares and sonobuoys. At about the same time, Sea Kings received a Crash Position Indicator (CPI), a transponder designed to break away from the aircraft and emit a homing signal in case of a crash. It is mounted on a plate fixed to the aft starboard side of the tailboom.
Seems like a lot of work? not really...Mike Belcher from Belcher Bits offers 2 resin conversion sets that depict the above changes (BB-01 & BB-02).
As for the markings, I used Belcher Bit's "Canadian Naval Helicopters" decalsheet . The sheet contains 3 Sea King schemes from early RCN to Gulf War.
