1/72I just received the Amodel 2008 catalogue, it lists a Kamov Ka-60 Orca in scale 1/72 as a new release for 2008. The product number of this kit will be 72161.
The kit is a variant of the Kamov Ka-62 (kit number 7249) currently in their catalagogue. The Ka-62 is the civil version of the Ka-60 Orca.
Previously the military Ka-60 was already released by Amodel, it had number 7018.
The russian Ka-60 is intended as a replacement for the Mil Mi-8. This multi-role helicopter first flew at the end of 1998.

Although I welcome any new helicopter kit especially if it´s of a civil subject, the fact that it will be released by AModel makes me cautious. About a year ago I started building the AModel Ka226 and this kit has had the honour of being the first kit I actually threw away before finishing it!! Never in my long modelling life had I seen such a major f#"&- up!
I don´t know ofcourse if the Ka226 is exemplary of all AModel-kits so let´s hope the Ka-60 will be worth it. Luchtvaart Hobby Shop already has the Ka62 listed as future release.

Hi Ross,
From the top of my head (I did throw away the kit): fit was very poor (which was worsened by the absence of positioning pins), detail was lacking completely and all the small parts were way oversize. The interior (in my air ambulance-version) consisted of a stretcher that would have looked good in a 1:32-kit. The Ka226 in real is a kind of fragile looking machine. Imho the kit's parts are too oversized to replicate these looks.
Don't take my word for it though: as with any pile of plastic, any kit can be made into something worthwhile, and so can this one I guess. The combination of the problems mentioned above made me give up completely on this one...

Tim, Is this yet another release of a Ka-60 from A-Model? The reason I ask is that 2-3 years ago I had one from the helicopter museum here in England...It's boxed as..A-model...Ka-60..1/72..Kit.number.7218. Inside the plastic is all white..Cost then £12.99....... Also have never seen an A-Model Ka 62 for sale, are there different boxings on sale in europe? Regards Ross.

Thanks for that Tim. Several people have spoken about the Ka-62. Have never seen one advertised even on the Hannants site. Only the one model Ka-60 (7218)....Regards.Ross.
