Zvezda just released this new and impressive model of the Russian Heavy Lift Helicopter Mil Mi-26 Halo in scale 1/72.

It contains markings for two Halo's. The one on the boxart shows a Russian Army helicopter, a second version is a plain white Halo flying for the United Nations. If these options are not what you expected, Begemot decals will release a decalsheet with around 40 different markings for the Mil Mi-26 Halo (set number 72-031)

The helicopter Mi-26 is the heaviest and largest helicopter in service today. Planning started in the seventies and it was introduced by the Soviet Army 1981. The Mi-26 is the perfect transport vehicle for fast troop deployment and saw extensive use by Russian Air Force during first and second Chechnya war. Total number produced 276 pcs. Mi-26´s are in service with some CIS states, Malaysia, India, Peru, Mexico and others for military use and China, South Korea, Greece, India and others for civilian purposes.

For those of you having difficulties to get Zvezda kits, Revell of Germany will do a reboxing of the Zvezda Mil Mi-26 Halo kit in March 2009.

The Zvezda Mi-26 kit with number 7270 is sold for around €34.

Zvezda Mi-26

Does anyone know if this is a new tooling or is it the same as the one (can't remember the company) out last year?

Zvezda Mi-26

RichardG, the Mi-26 that came out last year was the A-Model one. There are supposed to be two versions, one early and one later version. The late version I think is the one Hannants have on their New releases site. Ross.

Mi-26 or Mi-6?

Hi Ross,

Are you sure you don't mix the Mi-26 Halo and the Mi-6 Hook? I know that Amodel has an early and late model of the Mi-6 Hook but as far as I know not a Mi-26 Halo. Another company that has the Halo in 72nd scale is South Front.

That Helio.

Tim ...It's me i'm getting old..You are right..Sorry for the confusion.  Ross.

Mi 26

South Front was the company that produced the Mi 26. Could it be the same mould?

South Front <> Zvezda

I think this is a new tooling and not related to the South Front Mi-26 kit

Cheers, Tim

I can't wait

I'm going to bare the wrath of the Mrs for buying another kit and splash out on this one. I think the price seems pretty fair for a kit of this size. I like the fact that the main fusalage is in one piece mrather than 4 like the South Front model....think of the money you'll save on filler!!

just got my kit

Just got my kit from Hannants and it's excellent. Detailing is crisp and sharp. I've not done any dry fitting yet so can't comment on that. Decals look good and are thin and appear in register. One of the nicest touches is the four crew that are included. Some of the best molding I've seen for figures in this scale, down to the laces on the boots. It all comes in a very sturdy "lift the lid" type box to keep all your parts in. Nice detailing inside as well with all the spars and ribs molded in. It begs to be modelled with the ramps down ans a vehicle driving out. I can't wait to get stuck in and start it. I'd recommend this kit to anyone, but be warned it is BIG!!

ive just bought this kit

ive just bought this kit from my local model shop and i soon as i opened the box i thought to my self , wheres it gunna go , its roughly the same size as an antonov an12 ppk although with the rotors on it will be alot bigger , by the way the rotors have the droop molded in , the interior is quite well detailed although decal instruments are used but should be enough for most modelers , the colors used dont seem right to me ( it says silver for the inteior but im sure its pale blue , i could be wrong ) . the cargo bay is well detailed and above the rear ramp you can see a detailed driveshaft for the rear rotor , the bay roof also has plenty of detail and with a little dry brushing will look awsome , the amount of detail on the outside of the airframe is very impressive , lots of fiddly bits though so care will have to be taken , landing gear looks sturdy and should hold her steady , the rotor head is also well detailed and should look good once built , ive started to play with parts and they seem to be a good fit , with a bit of adjusting while the glue is drying you should be able to get the the joins exactly flush ,

one thing that puzzled me is that the instructions give dark green and light green over pale blue , but most pics i have show dark green and sand/tan over pale blue

the only let down to this kit will be finding somewhere to put it once its finished

my bad!!! The interior

my bad!!! The interior color doesn't say silver it says medium grey with pale blue instrument consoles, but still ... after looking at photos it seems that the grey color should be a white/offwhite color

my apologies

Mi-26 cockpit glass

Some have had reported issues with the cockpit glass being flattened by the other sprues.

As Andrey of Begemont reports on ARC:
"Actually after i show to Zvezda top-managers this post (about defected clear part) Zvezda in next day changed package of this sprue (now its placed in separate small box inside big box). And as i know Zvezda ready changed defected patrs (i'm not shure is it need directly or via you Western shops, where you buy this models).
I'm asked now about changed clear parts - answer was - let all modeller write to Zvezda office [at] zvezda [dot] orq [dot] ru e-mails, we see, what we can do.
"

Props to Zvezda for taking care of the issues and the costumer.
